| What's With the Dog Bans & Restrictions? |

Here's a story making the blog rounds that caught my eye. There are dog breeds that are being banned in certain areas of the country. OK. I'm thinking it must be the pitbull's. Nope. There are 75 breeds of dogs that are banned somewhere in the United States. I was flabbergasted to learn the breeds. You may be, too. Here's the list, followed up by several blogs on the subject that are a MUST read because the bans have to do with very powerful animal rights organizations who are trying to completely eliminate dogs from our households. At least that's what I glean from the overall information. What's your take on it? The blog links provide excellent information on this subject and it's more complicated than I first thought. It comes down to this; the fight is explained in terms of the dog being the "property" of the owner vs. the dog is an entity with its own "rights" - and it's more interesting than it appears on the surface. Well this is sort of a wierd story. Here's my take on the matter I guess. I believe in animal rights. By that I mean it is wrong to harm innocent animals just for the shear pleasure of doing it. By this defination I exclude hunting or fishing or slaughter houses because we uses these animals for food.
I don't see a problem with a dog that lives inside your house as long as you give it the proper care. I'd rather that than see a dog chained up living in a 5 square foot area in somebody's rotten back yard.
To ban a bread of dog that is not a danger to humans in my eyes makes no sense. Every creater has the right to exist in my eyes. What gives us the right to deny an animal its existance on earth?

And you frequent such animal rights religions ... they are extremists and only fools would listen to their plea.
Obviously, certain breeds will not adapt to certain climates - such as those Alaskan requiring very low temperature being put in the middle of Congo ...
I think that man should focus on far more important things than these stupidities though ...

Aside from some of the things you mention, Fruge, I'm concerned that we have the Nanny State again deciding, telling, demanding that we do such & such. Sometimes it's hard to know which side is exercising the most hyperbole. It just gets old after a while. And, the list is ridiculous. If we let the Ahmighty Nanny get its way, the only pets we'll be allowed in our homes are the stuff animals we got as kids. Sheesh.
Man, sometimes I just miss the craziness of the 60's and all that love :>

I agree with you, sjmclean, as far as some dogs shouldn't be placed just anywhere in the world - and that you'd think we had better things to worry about these days :)
My main reason for posting about this is I had not heard of this banning of dogs before and wonder if others here have or if it's being suppressed for some sneaky reason..heh heh
